Former executives of popular gaming titles such as Fortnite and League of Legends are joining forces with Yuga Labs, the creator of unique non-fungible tokens (NFTs) called Bored Ape Yacht Club. This new team will work together to create new gaming experiences that incorporate NFTs and blockchain technology. With their combined experience and expertise, they aim to revolutionize the gaming industry and bring it to new heights. Stay tuned for exciting developments from Yuga Labs and their team of industry veterans.
Yuga Labs, the company behind Bored Ape Yacht Club and Otherside, has made a big hire in its push towards the gaming industry. The company’s latest Chief Technology Officer is Mike Seavers, a veteran of game development companies Riot Games and Epic Games. Seavers is set to join the company on May 22nd and replaces the current CTO, Kerem Atalay, who will move to an advisory role. In a statement, Seavers said that he believes Web3 is a significant paradigm shift for the world and is excited to be joining Yuga Labs to help usher in a better era of the internet.
The move marks Yuga Labs’ latest push towards gaming and follows the announcement of Otherside, the company’s upcoming metaverse game. Following decreasing enthusiasm over metaverse hype, Yuga Labs aims to make Otherside a smash hit. According to CryptoSlam, Otherside is the most successful metaverse NFT collection to date, with nearly $1.25 billion in total volume traded since last year’s release. Yuga’s NFT ecosystem, which includes a host of popular collections such as Bored Apes and CryptoPunks, still makes up a significant portion of the total NFT ecosystem by market cap, representing nearly 35% of all NFT sales volume from October 2022 through March 2023, according to a recent DappRadar report.
With Seavers on board, Yuga Labs hopes to scale its digital identity and community vision in the gaming industry. Yuga Labs CEO Daniel Alegre said Seavers has a proven track record of taking companies to the next level and shares the company’s vision for community and social engagement. The game industry veteran has previously worked with League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, Valorant, and Fortnite, among others. His experience and expertise are expected to advance Yuga Labs’ goal of becoming the Web3 platform for community and social engagement in media and entertainment.
